Leading and mentoring others through mindfulness, global awareness and humanitarian activities, Andrea Laurel Ives has had first-hand experience and education in these areas. She is connected to a community of like-minded practitioners.
Andrea Laurel Ives (‘alives’ for short) is a proud Canadian and an Ontario Certified Teacher since 1986, but she identifies herself as a global citizen. Both of her grandmothers arrived by boat from the UK (England and Scotland) in the 1920s and her grandfathers’ families arrived in the early nineteenth century from England and Germany. Andrea comes from a long line of pioneers: people who took calculated risks and followed opportunities to optimize their lives for the future of their families and their communities.
Andrea attended elementary and secondary schools in Peterborough, ON and received awards in athletics, leadership and music. During that time, she had opportunities to compete for Team Canada in floor hockey in the USA and travel to Europe, Asia and the USA for education. Her 2 post-secondary degrees from Western University were separated by her first 2 careers: Sales/marketing/promotions; and, teaching international children in Saudi Arabia. Eventually, Andrea achieved her dream to be a Special Education Specialist, teacher and multi-sport coach for both mainstream and Special Olympic athletes across Ontario. She continues to expand her musical, dramatic and visual artistic talents to reflect and regenerate her resiliency.
Andrea is a proud mother of 1 daughter and grandmother of 4. She currently lives in Ottawa, ON and competes internationally on Team Canada as a Master triathlete and marathon runner. She plans to expand her athletic adventures abroad at the World Masters Games to include her interests in tennis, badminton and golf.
